Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina diver Tracey Richardson has earned a spot to compete at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece for her native country Great Britain. Richardson, a former SEC champion, will compete on the three-meter board. Richardson redshirted this past year and will compete next season at Carolina as a junior.

Richardson is not the only USC diver with Olympic aspirations. Junior men’s diver Andy Bradley and junior women’s divers Allison Brennan, Holly Hodges and Lauren King will compete at the 2004 Olympic Trials later this summer to earn a spot on Team USA. The US Olympic Trials are scheduled from June 7-13 at St. Petersburg, Mo.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for Tracey,” said USC head diving coach Todd Sherritt. “She has been better ever year and has put a lot of hard work into making this team. Our whole team here at South Carolina is doing a great job of training and it is the most divers I have had with a shot at the Olympics since I have been here. There is great chemistry with this team and they have all been training hard. It shows at the competition level as we have been producing conference and national champions as well as an Olympian.”

Junior Allison Brennan became Carolina’s first national champion in swimming and diving this past March when she won the one-meter board at the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas. The past two seasons Bradley has finished as national runner-up at the NCAA Men’s Championships on the one-meter board. King has competed the last two years at the NCAA Championships and has earned All-American honors.
