Athens, Ga – The University of South Carolina Swimming Team qualified six swimmers for the finals and consolations to be held tonight at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga.

For the women, Freshman Kendel Fiorentino and Senior Meagan Johnson qualified for the consolation round tonight in the 200 yard butterfly. Fiorentino’s time of 2:04.07 which put her in 12th place was a personal best for her as was Johnson’s time of 2:02.77 which put her in tenth place. Senior Jennifer Van Assen qualified for the finals in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.17 which put her in fourth place. Fiorentino also qualified for the consolation round in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:20.80 which was another personal best for her. Senior Ashleigh Bastak had a personal best today as well with a time of 1:54.11 in the 200 yard freestyle.

On the men’s side, Senior, Istvan Bathazi qualified for the consolation round in the 200 yard freestyle along with Colby Mack. Bathazi’s time of 1:38.43 was his best on the year as was Mack’s time of 1:39.26. Also qualifying in the consolation round for the men was Senior, Lir Derieg in the 200 yard backstroke. Derieg’s time of 1:49.67 was his best of the year.

Finals and consolations will be held this evening at 6:30.
