Lewis Begins NCAA Championship Friday at Grayhawk

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Redshirt senior Evans Lewis is set to tee it up as an individual at the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship (May 27-30) on Friday. Lewis will be off at 4:42 p.m. (ET) on hole one in the afternoon wave. He’s paired with Gardner-Webb’s Zack Byers and Washington’s RJ Manke and will be one of six individuals competing in the stroke play portion of the National Championship.
 
Lewis qualified for the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club after finishing T-5^th at the Norman Regional (May 16-18). He shot 210 (-6) with three consecutive under par rounds including a 69 (-3) over his final 18 holes of the tournament.
 
“Evans looks really sharp with his game right now and I think Grayhawk is a good setup for him,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “It’s imperative you hit fairways here and he’s driving the ball really well. The greens are firm and a little baked out, so he’s going to have to be patient with his putting and miss the ball on the low side in most cases. I’m excited for him this week, and it should be a great experience.”
 
The Sumter, S.C., native is the fourth Gamecock in program history to play in the NCAA Championship as an individual joining All-Americans Ryan Hall (2021), Davis Seawell (1994, 1995) and Steve Liebler (1980). If he makes the cut to the medal round on Monday, he would be the first individual in program history to accomplish the feat.
