Poppell Announces 2022-23 Meet Schedule
Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina swimming and diving announced its 2022-23 schedule on Wednesday. In its second season under head coach Jeff Poppell, the team will compete in seven dual meets and a trio of multi-day invitationals.
“This year’s regular season meet schedule, which is loaded with top-25 talent, will be a rigorous one for our team but exactly what I think we need to prepare us adequately for the championship-caliber competition we will face at both the SEC and NCAA Championships,” said Poppell.
The Gamecocks will kick off the season at home against Army on Friday, Sept. 23, at 4 p.m. before hosting their first conference opponent in LSU on Saturday, Oct. 8, with dive competition beginning at 10 a.m. and swim competition starting at 11 a.m.
The team will then hit the road, traveling to Alabama for a dual meet on Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. before heading to North Carolina for back-to-back duals at Duke and UNC on Nov. 4 and 5, respectively.
South Carolina returns home to host the swim only Gamecock Invitational Nov. 16-18. The Gamecocks will welcome UNCW, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, North Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, and Vanderbilt to the Carolina Natatorium. Meanwhile, the Gamecock divers will head to Knoxville, Tenn., to compete in the Tennessee Invitational Nov. 17-19.
The fall semester will conclude with the USA Diving Nationals on Dec. 14-18 at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown, W.Va.
Diving will begin the new year at the Georgia Diving Invitational Jan. 3-5. Both swimming and diving will return to action at home for two consecutive dual meets versus UNCW (Jan. 7) and Georgia (Jan. 14). Both meets will begin with dive at 10 a.m. and swim starting at 11 a.m.
The regular season will again be completed at the Virginia Tech Invitational Feb. 3-5 before postseason competition begins.
The SEC Championships will be Feb. 14-18 in College Station, Texas, at the Rec Center Natatorium. The team will then have one final opportunity to compete at the UGA Last Chance Invitational Feb. 25-26 in Athens, Ga.
NCAA Zone B Diving will take place March 5-8 at a location to be determined. This year’s NCAA women’s championships will be conducted at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn. (March 15-18), while the men’s championships will be held at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn. (March 22-25).
