Gamecocks to Host Queens
Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina swimming & diving will host Queens for its annual breast cancer awareness meet Friday at 4 p.m. at the Carolina Natatorium. Queens men are ranked second and its women are ranked third in the national Division II standings. The Royals are the reigning Division II National Champions on both the men’s and women’s side.
“We expect a great test tomorrow, especially on the men’s side,” said head coach Jeff Poppell. “I think the more that we’re challenged and the more we’re put into that position it’s only going to make us better.”
South Carolina is coming off some strong performances in its most recent dual meet versus No. 8/8 Georgia. Mari Kraus continues her senior campaign with strong showings in the backstroke events, while junior Jordan Yip is achieving high placements in the breaststroke and butterfly events.
The Gamecock women are 9-0 all-time against Queens while the men are 8-1. The Royals are coming off a sweep of Emory earlier in the month.
As part of the breast cancer awareness meet, the Gamecocks will be wearing pink shirts and buttons honoring those who they fight for. The team will also make recognitions on its social media channels (@GamecockSwim).
Admission to the meet is free with competition getting started at 4 p.m. and pre-meet events beginning at 3:50 p.m. Live scoring and results will be provided through MeetMobile.
The University of South Carolina continues to abide by the City of Columbia face mask ordinance and requires face coverings at all times in campus buildings.
