Kroeger Named to Ray’s Eight for the Third Time This Season

University of South Carolina junior punter Kai Kroeger has been named to the “Ray’s 8” list for his performance against Texas A&M last Saturday, it was announced today. The Augusta Sports Council and the Ray Guy Award select eight standout punters each week who are then eligible to be named the Punter of the Week.

Kroeger, a 6-4, 207-pounder from Lake Forest, Ill., punted six times in the Gamecocks’ 30-24 win over the Aggies. He averaged 49.0-yards per punt, including a pair of 55-yarders. Three of his six punts were downed inside the Aggie 20-yard line. He received a game ball for his efforts following the contest.

This marks the third time in which Kroeger has been named to the “Ray’s 8” list this season. He was selected as the national Punter of the Week after the season-opening win over Georgia State, and also was on the “Ray’s 8” list for his efforts against Georgia in week two.

About the Ray Guy Award
The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thompson, Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner is net punting average, number of times punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned with particular emphasis on net punting average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team’s success.
