Gamecock Divers Visit Athens for Invitational
Athens, Ga. – South Carolina Diving will resume their competition season on Tuesday at the Georgia Diving Invitational in Athens, Ga.
The invitational will run Jan 3-5 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium. Divers from across the country will be represented with South Carolina and host Georgia being joined by teams from Minnesota, Virginia, NC State, Iowa State, Miami – Ohio, Tennessee, and SMU.
Competition will begin each day at 11 a.m. with men’s and women’s events running concurrently. Finals will begin 15 minutes following the conclusion of the preliminary session.
Tuesday’s competition will consist of the women’s 3-meter event and the men’s 1-meter event.
Wednesday’s competition will see the women’s platform event and the men’s 3-meter event.
The invitational will wrap up on Thursday with the women’s 1-meter and the men’s platform events.
The Gamecock divers were in action most recently back in November at the Tennessee Invitational where graduate Brooke Schultz swept the springboards and senior Manny Vazquez Bas placed second in the platform event.
Schultz currently holds the highest 1-meter and 3-meter dive scores in the SEC this season with a 352.88 in the 1-meter and a school record setting score of 413.78 in the 3-meter, both achieved at the season opener versus Army.
South Carolina already has five divers qualified for the NCAA Zone B Championships that will take place in March. Schultz and Vazquez Bas have already earned their qualifications in multiple events and are joined in qualification by Charley Bayer, Blair Isenhour, and Sophie Verzyl.
