Baseball Visits Baton Rouge for Thursday-Saturday Series at LSU

The Gamecocks and Tigers start on ESPNU Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. ET.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The University of South Carolina baseball team heads to Baton Rouge, La., and Alex Box Stadium for a three-game series with LSU beginning Thursday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m. CT (7:30 p.m. ET). Friday’s game is set for 7 p.m. CT (8 p.m. ET) with the series finale Saturday at 2 p.m. CT (3 p.m. ET). Thursday’s game will be televised on ESPNU with Mike Morgan and Todd Walker on the call. Friday and Saturday’s games will be on SEC Network Plus. Every Gamecock contest will be on the Gamecock Radio Network with Derek Scott and Tommy Moody on the call. Carolina is coming off a 9-0 win over Charleston Southern on Tuesday night as Josiah Sightler and David Mendham homered and Jack Mahoney struck out seven in five innings. It was Carolina’s third shutout of the season.

SCOUTING LSU
The Tigers took 2-of-3 games at Kentucky this past weekend, winning the first two games by scores of 15-2 and 8-6. Cade Beloso and Hayden Travinski each drove in four runs in the series opener while Landon Marceaux had eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings pitched to earn the victory. Freshman Dylan Crews leads LSU with a .350 batting average to go along with seven doubles and nine home runs. Marceaux has 55 strikeouts in 47.2 innings pitched.
 
SERIES VS. LSU
LSU holds a 39-29-1 series advantage on the Gamecocks heading into this week’s contests. The last two meetings between the two teams have been in Hoover during the SEC Tournament with LSU coming away with a 6-4, 12-inning win in 2018 and an 8-6 win in the opening round in 2019. The last series between the two teams was in 2018 in Columbia, with the Gamecocks sweeping the three games.
 
ALLEN DELIVERS IN MISSOURI SERIES
Brady Allen was 6-for-11 with six runs scored, two doubles, one home run and six RBI in a series win over Missouri on April 9-11. His three-run home run on Saturday got the Gamecocks on the board in the fifth inning. Allen then drove in four runs in Sunday’s 13-4 win over the Tigers. On the season, Allen leads the team with a .317 batting average and has nine home runs and 28 RBI.

LLOYD, KERRY CLUTCH OUT OF THE PEN
Juniors Daniel Lloyd and Brett Kerry each had strong outings out of the bullpen in the series win over Missouri. On Saturday, Lloyd pitched four scoreless innings, allowing four hits with no walks and two strikeouts to earn the save in the 11-1 victory. Then on Sunday, Kerry struck out eight in four innings of relief, allowing six hits and two runs with no walks. Carolina’s bullpen has nine wins and 185 strikeouts in 133 innings pitched this season.
