Sophomore broke school record in event, finishing 10th at SEC Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Sophomore Janie Smith has qualified in the 100 free for the 2021 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. This year’s championship is being held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. on March 17-20. The men’s championship will follow at the same site March 24-27.

Smith finished 10th in the 100 free at the SEC Championships two weeks ago. She broke the school record in the prelims of the event with a career-best time of 48.69. All-American Christina Lappin held the previous record at 48.95 (2/23/19). Smith will be seeded 35th in the event.

The Charlotte, N.C., native, will also compete in the 50 free (22.38) and 100 fly (53.61) with NCAA B-cut qualifying times in each.
