Laitarovsky Qualifies for NCAAs

Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina sophomore swimmer Michael Laitarovsky has earned a spot at the 2023 NCAA Championships, coming up March 22-25, in Minneapolis. This will be Laitarovsky’s first appearance at the NCAAs.

Laitarovsky, a native of Natanya, Isreal, earned his qualifying time in the 100 back. The sophomore holds the program record in that event with a 45.27 that he swam at the 2023 SEC Championships. This performance at the conference championships earned him a bronze medal.

The sophomore is no stranger to high-stakes meets, having completed for Team Israel at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Laitarovsky originally set the program record last season as a freshman and has lowered it on several occasions throughout his career.

He joins senior Manny Vazquez Bas in representing the Gamecocks in Minneapolis. Vazquez Bas earned his qualification at the Zone B Championships in the platform diving event.

South Carolina’s women will be the next to compete for the team with their Championships beginning March 15 in Knoxville, Tenn. More information on the NCAAs can be found here.
