25 Gamecocks Named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans
Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina swimming & diving saw 25 student-athletes honored as College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-Americans, the association announced on Friday. The Gamecocks had 17 women and eight men earn the recognition, including a total of nine first-team selections.
The award recognizes student-athletes for their work both academically and athletically throughout the 2022-23 season. First-team honors recognize those who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and were invited to compete at the respective national championships. Second-team honors recognize those who earned a 3.50 GPA or higher and achieved a “B” time standard or participated at a diving zone qualification meet.
The Gamecocks continued to improve upon their growing number of Scholar All-Americans during the 2022-23 season with 23 having earned the honor during the 2021-22 season under first-year head coach Jeff Poppell after having had only eight in 2020-21. Prior to the 2021 season, South Carolina had five consecutive seasons with more than 20 honorees.
South Carolina’s men’s and women’s teams were both also recognized as CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams during the fall and spring semesters this season, marking the 16th straight semester of accomplishing this feat.
Founded in 1922, the CSCAA is the nation’s first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development.
