Goldfaden and Burras Qualify for NCAA Championships
COLUMBIA, S.C— Senior Itay Goldfaden and sophomore Lewis Burras of the South Carolina men’s swimming and diving team qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, the NCAA announced Wednesday. The meet will be held Mar. 25-28 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
Goldfaden will look to carry over momentum from his stellar SEC Championship meet. The Gamecock senior repeated as the SEC 100 Breaststroke Champion, breaking a program record while swimming the fifth-fastest time in the NCAA this year, 51.35.
Burras qualified for two events in his first season in the Garnet and Black. The Preston, England, native qualified for the 50 freestyle after placing third at the SEC Championships, and the 100 freestyle after a fourth-place finish. Burras’ swims of 19.17 and 42.28, respectively, both set new program records.
The two swimmers join diving sophomore Anton Down-Jenkins, who qualified for the one- and three-meter competitions earlier this week.
QUOTABLE HEAD COACH MCGEE MOODY
“We are excited to take Itay and Lewis to race the best in the country. They have worked hard all year and have earned the right to compete at the NCAA Championships. They are ready to represent South Carolina at the highest level.”
