Dakereon Joyner Named to 2023 SEC Football Community Service Team

Dakereon Joyner has been selected as the University of South Carolina’s representative for the 2023 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the conference office announced today.

The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21-league sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.

Joyner, who was the Gamecocks’ nominee for the Wuerffel Trophy, has been very active in the community service arena, both in Columbia and in his hometown of North Charleston. During the football season he donated money to a non-profit organization or a charity for every touchdown he scored this season. He hopes to use his platform to give back, inspire others and make a difference in people’s lives. He led the team with five rushing touchdowns. Recently, he organized a Thanksgiving Drive in which he worked with Harvest Hope to provide families in need with a Thanksgiving meal.

On the field, Joyner was a five-year letterwinner who made starts at quarterback, wide receiver and running back. The highlight of his career was being named the MVP of the 2021 Duke’s Mayo Bowl and earning a spot on the Associated Press All-Bowl Team after leading South Carolina to a 38-21 win over North Carolina.
