Gamecocks Gear up for 2020 SEC Championships

COLUMBIA, S.C– South Carolina swimming and diving is set to kick off championship season as it heads to Auburn, Ala., for the 2020 Southeastern Conference Championships at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center. This year’s SEC Championships run Feb. 18-22 with a morning preliminary session and an evening finals session on each day.

The meet begins Tuesday with diving prelims at 11:30 a.m., followed by swimming and diving finals starting at 6 p.m. From Wednesday through Saturday, the swimming prelims will open at 10:30 a.m., followed by diving prelims at 1:30 p.m. and all finals at 7 p.m.
 
Before returning to Columbia, the Gamecocks will stay at Auburn forSunday long course time trials, in preparation for the Olympic year.
 
Gamecock SEC Championship Notables

  • Itay Goldfaden will defend his 100-breaststroke title this year, winning the event in 51.72 last season.
  • South Carolina’s men have had 13 individual conference championship performances since joining the Southeastern Conference while the women’s side has tallied 16 individual SEC Championships.
  • Carolina has had 14 total diving conference champions, each of which came on the women’s side.
  • Last season, the Gamecocks set four new program records at the event.
