Riordan Lowers 100 Back School Record at NCAAs
Athens, Ga. – South Carolina’s swimmers completed the third day of action at the NCAA Championships on Friday with a new school record in the 100 back, courtesy of sophomore Amy Riordan.
Riordan swam a 51.92 for the new record, shaving 0.13 seconds off of her previous record of 52.05 that she set at the SEC Championships in February. This marks the fourth time this season that Riordan has lowered the 100 back school record with the three previous records all coming on the same day during the SEC Championships.
Riordan’s time landed her in 24th place overall in the event. She was joined in the event by senior Bella Pantano who was disqualified.
In addition to the two swimmers in the 100 back, South Carolina also had three representatives in the 100 fly. Junior Greta Pelzek led the team in 29th place with a 51.82, followed by Nicholle Toh in 36th with a 52.10, and Jordan Agliano in 58th with a 53.59.
Also competing in Friday’s prelims was sophomore Meaghan Harnish who placed 34th overall in the 400 IM with a 4:12.11.
The NCAA Championships will conclude on Sunday with the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, platform diving, and the 400 free relay. South Carolina will have two swimmers in the 200 back, one in the 200 breast, and three in the 200 fly. The team will also have a group in the 400 free relay.
