Gamecocks Fall at North Carolina
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – South Carolina swimming and diving dropped its meet at North Carolina Saturday afternoon. The #21 Tar Heel women scored a 187.5-112.5 win over the 17th-ranked Gamecock women, while the men fell to the Tar Heels 184-108.
WOMEN
Senior Greta Pelzek and junior Sophie Verzyl were the highlights on the women’s side, adding two wins each to the Gamecocks’ effort.
- Senior Greta Pelzek swept the butterfly events for the second-straight meet, winning the 100 in 52.99 and the 200 in 1:56.16.
- Junior diver Sophie Verzyl claimed the win on both boards for the second time in three meets, collecting her fourth and fifth individual wins of the season. Her 336.30 on the 1-meter was her season high.
- Sophomore Delaney Franklin turned in a career best time of 2:11.52 to win the 200 breaststroke, keeping her seventh in the program’s top-10 performers list.
- Freshman Dylan Scholes anchored both the 400 medley and 200 free relays with both claiming the eighth-best showings in program history with times of 3:36.66 and 1:30.47, respectively.
MEN
Sophomores Connor Fry and Max Spencer led the way for the Gamecock men, scoring 13 points each in the meet.
- Diver Max Spencer got the Gamecocks off to a strong start with a win in on the 3-meter board for his first win of the season. He went on to claim second on the 1-meter board.
- Distance freestyler Connor Fry picked up his first 1000 free victory and his second overall win of the season, besting the second-place finisher by over eight seconds. He narrowly missed sweeping the distance events, finishing second in the 500 by .21 seconds.
- The Gamecocks’ 400 medley relay team of Michael Laitarovsky, Linus Kahl, Eldor Usmonov and Wylie Kruse posted a time of 3:11.39 to take eighth on the program’s top-10 list.

The Gamecocks are back in action on Fri., Nov. 8, with the swim teams hosting Queens University at Carolina Natatorium at 2 p.m. and the diving teams traveling to UNC Wilmington.
