South Carolina Makes History at No. 4 in Latest ITA Poll

TEMPE, Ariz. – The South Carolina women’s tennis team is now ranked No. 4 in the nation, earning the highest ranking in program history according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll.
 
Carolina’s record-breaking ranking comes after downing No. 5 Vanderbilt, 4-0, on Friday, March 22, and topping No. 23 Kentucky, 4-3, on Sunday, March 24. Previously, South Carolina’s program-best was No. 5, achieved on April 3, 2018.
 
The Gamecocks are 12-3 overall this season and are 7-1 in SEC play. Their one conference loss comes to then-ranked No. 2 Georgia in a close match, 4-2.
 
This season, Carolina is 7-2 against ranked opponents, including victories over No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 9 Oklahoma State, No. 16 Tennessee, No. T20 Texas Tech, No. 23 Kentucky, No. 41 Missouri and No. 44 Arkansas.
 
South Carolina is one of 10 SEC teams appearing in this week’s ITA poll, trailing only Georgia, which is ranked at No. 1 in the nation.
 
Seeing two ranked opponents in their next two road matches, the Gamecocks face off against No. 12 Texas A&M at 6 p.m. ET on Friday, March 29 and No. 23 LSU at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 31.
