Dylan Stewart Named the Shaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Week

University of South Carolina EDGE rusher Dylan Stewart was selected as the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award National Player of the Week for his efforts in the Gamecocks’ 44-20 win over No. 10 Texas A&M last Saturday, the Maxwell Football Club announced today.

Stewart, a 6-6, 248-pound true freshman from Washington, D.C., recorded two solo tackles, including a pivotal fourth-quarter sack that helped secure South Carolina’s lead. According to PFF College, the five-star freshman posted nine quarterback pressures, an impressive 90.0 pass-rush grade, and a 34%-win rate. His consistent pressure on Texas A&M’s offense disrupted their plays at critical moments. Stewart continues to showcase his elite skills, with sacks in three of the last four games.

Each week during the 2024 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize an outstanding performance by a college freshman with the Shaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Week award. The Shaun Alexander Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams and players selected do not have to be represented on the Shaun Alexander Award Hot 37 preseason watch list.
