Women’s Swimming & Diving Sends 12 Gamecocks to NCAA Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – 12 athletes on the South Carolina women’s swimming & diving team have qualified for the 2025 NCAA Championships and are set to compete at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way, Washington, from Wed., March 19 to Sat., March 22.

Eight Gamecocks qualified for individual events which is two more than last year’s showing. Greta Pelzek and Breckin Gormley lead the group with two events apiece.

After posting school record and SEC A-final times in both her events events, Pelzek qualified for NCAAs in the 100 and 200 fly for her third consecutive season. She ranks in the top 20 going into the meet in both events, sitting at 17th in the 100 (51.46) and 10th in the 200 (1:52.80).

Gormley qualified for her first NCAAs in the 500 freestyle and 200 fly following dominant performances at the SEC Championships last month. The junior broke the school record in the 500 free with a 4:39.03, which is the 31st fastest time in the country. In the 200 fly she ranks 35th after setting a best time of 1:55.71 at SECs.

After breaking the school record three separate times in the 50 free, Peyton Curry booked a trip to her second NCAA Championships, first time as an individual, with a time of 22.01 which has her tied for 26th.

Delaney Franklin qualified for her first NCAAs in the 400 IM with a time of 4:08.91 which has her at 34th. Amy Riordan heads to her second NCAA Championship in the 200 backstroke with a 1:52.82 which has her at 28th.

Madison Kolessar (16:06.49) and Nora Fluck (16:06.89) qualified for the meet in the 1650 free after both breaking the school record in the event at SECs. The two rank 30th and 32nd, respectively. Both Gamecocks will be competing at the meet for the first time.

Sophie Verzyl heads to her second NCAAs in both springboard events after placing in the top 5 at the Zone B Championships last week. The junior took second in the 3-meter (348.55) and fourth in the 1-meter (304.45). She enters this meet as the 2025 SEC Champion in the 3-meter and runner up in the 1-meter.

The 400 medley relay which consists of Riordan, Liz Goodwin-Birnie, Pelzek and Curry clocked an NCAA A-cut in the event at SECs to secure their spot in the meet with a time of 3:30.81.

Additionally, the Gamecocks are eligible to compete in the 200, 400 and 800 free relays at the championships. The team is sending Ellery Ottem (200, 400 & 800 relays), Dylan Scholes (200 & 400 relays) and Meaghan Harnish (800 relay) to compete in those events.

Prelims on March 20th and 21st begin at 3:15 p.m. ET with finals kicking off at 9:00 p.m. ET. On March 22nd prelims are slated for 1:00 p.m. ET followed by finals at 9:00 p.m.
