23 Gamecocks Named to CSCAA Scholar All-America Team

COLUMBIA, S.C. South Carolina had a total of 23 swimmers and divers (12 women and 11 men) named to the 2018 CSCAA Scholar All-America team for achieving a 3.50 grade point average or higher the CSCAA announced on Wednesday. The Gamecocks’ 23 Scholar All-Americans is the highest total under Head Coach McGee Moody.
The Gamecocks had 14 total swimmers named First-Team CSCAA Scholar All-American for earning a 3.5 GPA and competing at the NCAA Championships. The remaining nine who attained a B cut or qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in addition to a 3.5 GPA received honorable mention recognition.
The South Carolina women’s team achieved a 3.64 team GPA for the year, just .02 away from a spot in the nation’s top 10. Earning first-team CSCAA Scholar All-America honors on the women’s side were Emma Barksdale, Emily Cornell, Kersten Dirrane, Albury Higgs, Mikaela Lujan, Heather Merritt, Julia Vincent and Taylor Worrell. Marissa DelGado, Yu Qian Goh, Ana Menendez Nava and Karlee Price each earned honorable mention status.
For the men, Brandonn Almeida, Cody Bekemeyer, Rafael Davila, Lionel Khoo, Tomas Peribonio, and Nils Wich-Glasen each received first-team recognition. Jeremiah Bohon, Bryce Kananowicz, Tamas Novoszath and Allen Ross were named honorable mention to help the men’s program to a 3.40 team GPA.
