Gamecocks Split Dual vs. Florida State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – South Carolina swim and dive split results with Florida State on Friday afternoon at the Morcom Aquatics Center.
The Gamecock women defeated the Seminoles 199-91, while the men fell short 121-179.
WOMEN
- To kick off the afternoon, the 200 medley relay team of Amy Riordan, Lix Goodwin-Birnie, Taylor Grimley and Dylan Scholes grabbed a second-place finish with a time of 1:39.23.
- Sophomore Nora Fluck opened the individual events by breaking her own school record in the 1000 freestyle, clocking a winning time of 9:43.64. She originally set the previous record in the season’s first meet.
- Breckin Gormley notched another win for USC in the 200 freestyle, securing the win with a time of 1:46.55. Gormley also grabbed a win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:45.10. Fluck finished second with a 4:48.14.
- Riordan picked up right where she left off, taking the 100 backstroke title, recording a time of 52.50. She also grabbed a win in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.19.
- Dylan Scholes earned another win for the Gamecocks as she took home the 50 freestyle win with a time of 22.61.
- Megan Maholic grabbed herself a victory in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:57.13. Katie Buehler, Caroline Chasser and Tori Abruzzo followed behind.
- Delaney Franklin claimed the 200 breaststroke victory with a time of 2:10.92. Kesa Taivassalo finished third and Alexis Dalton followed in fourth.
- Franklin picked up the win in the 200 individual medley as well, notching a time of 2:00.33.
- The team of Riordan, Scholes, Ellery Ottem and Sofia Luper claimed the 400 freestyle relay title with a time of 3:19.66.
- On the diving side, senior Sophie Verzyl got the job done, taking both the 1-meter (266.10) and the 3-meter (344.10) dive victories.
MEN
- Connor Fry completed the Gamecock sweep in the 1000 freestyle, finding the wall first with a time of 9:03.79.
- Fry also finished second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:25.37.
- Freshman Einar Agustsson picked up his first collegiate win in the 100 breaststroke with the sixth-fastest time in program history (52.91). Agustsson went on to pick up the win in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:56.21, the fifth-fastest in program history.
- Freshman Merlin Ficher earned his first win as a Gamecock in the 200 backstroke, recording a time of 1:44.36, the eighth-fastest in program history.
- Pierre Largeron finished first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:24.64.
- Eldor Usmonov added a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 46.36, tying him for third in program history.
- The 400 freestyle relay team of Ryan Hufford, Bexon Harrison, Agustsson and Eldor Usmonov grabbed a second-place finish with a time of 2:57.20.
- Charley Bayer took home first place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 333.38. Max Spencer took home the 1-meter title, notching a score of 376.50.
