Gamecocks Conclude Competition at Tennessee Diving Invite

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Two Gamecocks competed on platform in the final day of the Tennessee Diving Invitational. Mikaela Lujan took ninth in the women’s platform while Grant Summers took 17th in the men’s. The two events marked the end of a successful competition for the South Carolina diving team.

Lujan and Summers earned scores of 222.45 and 269.55 in their respective platform events.

All four Gamecock women at the meet earned a spot in at least one event final throughout the three-day invitational. Julia Vincent and Karlee Price both competed in the 1-meter finals, placing fourth and 12th, respectively. Three Gamecocks appeared in the 3-meter finals with Vincent placing second, Yu Qian Goh placing 10th and Lujan finishing 11th.

Summers competed in the 1-meter and 3-meter along with platform. He narrowly missed finals with a 13th-place finish in the 3-meter and tied for 15th in the 1-meter.

“Coming off of our Christmas break, I was very pleased with how this week turned out. We used this as a training meet to throw in some new dives and work on mechanical issues without emphasizing place finish. In saying that, moving forward, I see many breakthroughs a s a result of this meet and how it turned out.”

The Gamecocks will be back in action as South Carolina swimming and diving travels to East Carolina on January 13th.
