Vincent Places 28th in 2017 World Diving Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – South Carolina diving’s Julia Vincent represented her home country of South Africa this afternoon at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The senior competed in the women’s 1-meter springboard, finishing with a five-dive score of 221.80 to finish 28th in the preliminary round.

Vincent’s first dive, an inward 1-½ somersault pike, earned her 54.00 points to place her tied for third after the first round. She followed that up with a forward 2-½ somersault pike for a 52.00, moving into the seventh spot as the competition escalated. Her third dive earned her 48.30 points for a slight drop in the standings.

In the fourth round, Vincent tied her highest score of the competition with another 54.00 on her reverse 2-½ somersault tuck. Her impressive performance on this dive drove her back into the fifth spot. Attempting a more difficult dive, a reverse 1-½ somersault 2-½ twist, produced her lowest score of the competition and dropped her out of the finals.

Vincent will be back in action for the 3-meter competition starting Thu., July 20 at 4 a.m. (ET).
