RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL. – Kierre Beckles, a 2013 graduate from South Carolina and a track and field standout, made her Olympic debut in the 100m hurdles Tuesday morning. Beckles, who is running for her home country of Barbados, posted a solid time of 13.01 seconds but did not make the qualifying cut for Wednesday’s semifinal round.

Running in the fourth of six rounds, Beckles finished sixth in her heat ââ’¬” a heat that proved to be the deepest of any on the day. The five runners who crossed ahead of her all earned a place in the semifinal, three with automatic bids and two who made it in on time. Beckles ultimately finished just two hundredths of a second behind the final time qualifier, Oluwatobiloba Amusan of Nigeria.

The fourth Gamecock to compete at the Olympics will be Jeannelle Scheper. The 2015 NCAA Outdoor champion in the high jump will compete for Saint Lucia in the preliminary round of the high jump on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 9 a.m. ET. Scheper finished 7th overall at the 2015 IAAF World Championships last summer, and is making her Olympic debut.
