Sept. 6, 2016

University of South Carolina placekicker Elliott Fry was recognized as the Southeastern Conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Gamecocks’ win over Vanderbilt, it was announced today.

Fry, a six-foot, 170-pound senior from Frisco, Texas, got the Gamecocks on the board with a 48-yard field goal in the third quarter, then hit on a career-long 55-yard attempt in the final minute to lift Carolina to a 13-10 season-opening win at Vanderbilt. The 55-yard field goal was three-yards further than his previous best, and tied for the second-longest field goal in school history.

It marked the fourth time that Fry has been honored with a weekly award by the SEC. In 2013, he was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week against Missouri, and was the SEC Freshman of the Week against Florida. In 2014, he earned SEC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades against East Carolina.

Fry and his Gamecock teammates will travel to Starkville, Miss. this week to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Game time is set for 7 pm ET and the contest will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
