ORLANDO, Fla. ââ’¬” South Carolina women’s golfers Katelyn Dambaugh and Sarah Schmelzel both finished under par on day two of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate at Reunion Resort’s Watson Course. The Gamecocks shot a 293 (5-over) in the second round and currently sit in ninth place (3-over) for the tournament.
Dambaugh (T2) climbed back near the top of the leaderboard after tallying birdies on her final two holes to finish the day at 1-under. The junior standout, who opened with a 65 (7-under) on Sunday, carded three birdies on her final nine holes after making the turn at 38 (2-over). Dambaugh (8-under) will enter the final round two strokes back of tournament leader Robynn Ree (10-under) of Southern California.
Schmelzel also saw a strong finish to her round, as she recorded birdies on two of her final three holes. The South Carolina senior also notched birdies on No. 2, 15 and 16 on her way to a 3-under (69). Schmelzel stands in a tie for seventh place with a score of 5-under for the tournament.
Freshman Isidora Nilsson (T59, 12-over) finished the day at 4-over (76) after recording her first two birdies of the tournament on No. 6 and 16, while junior Jia Xin Yang (57, 10-over) and sophomore Ainhoa Olarra (T49, 7-over) both shot a 77 (5-over) on Monday.
Southern California (29-under) extended its lead over the field after firing a 271 (17-under) on day two. Texas A&M (12-under) stands in second place after shooting a 286 (2-under) on Monday, while Arizona (9-under) tallied a score of 281 (7-under) in the second round to jump up to third place.
