Freshman Hadley Berg won her singles and doubles matches for the Gamecocks on Saturday at the Michigan Invitational.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The No. 23 South Carolina women’s tennis team opened play in the Michigan Invitational on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich., at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The Gamecocks took two of three doubles matches against No. 31 Texas Tech. Brigit Folland and Hadley Berg registered a 7-5 triumph against Kenna Kilgo and Sarah Dvorak, while Ximena Siles Luna and Caroline Dailey defeated Hortense Bosher and Gabriella Talaba by the same score. The Red Raider duo of Samantha Czarniak and Katelyn Jackson picked up a 6-2 win against Natalie Looney and Alex Martin.
No. 16 Michigan won a pair of three-set matches and took four of the remaining five contests from the Gamecocks in singles play. South Carolina’s lone victory came from Berg with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph against Mira Ruder-Hook. Dailey lost in three to No. 18 Emina Bektas 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, while Folland also lost in three sets to 23rd-ranked Ronit Yurovsky 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Siles Luna, Looney, Martin and Alison Mills all suffered losses in straight sets.
South Carolina and No. 39 South Florida will begin singles action at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Following the match, the Gamecocks and Wolverines will compete in doubles.
