COLUMBIA, S.C. — Ten members of the South Carolina women’s tennis team will compete in the 11th Annual Kitty Harrison Invitational at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, N.C., beginning Friday and ending Sunday.
Representing the Gamecocks in Chapel Hill are Hadley Berg, Meghan Blevins, Megen Cochran, Caroline Dailey, Brigit Folland, Katie Fosnacht, Natalie Looney, Alex Martin, Alison Mills and Ximena Siles Luna.
The tournament will primarily be played at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, but select matches will take place at Duke and one match on Sunday will be conducted at Wake Forest.
Named in honor of former UNC head coach Kitty Harrison, the event features 13 teams from throughout the country, including ACC squads Duke, NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, in addition to the host Tar Heels. Other schools include East Carolina, Elon, Davidson, Maryland, William & Mary and Penn State.
Blevins leads South Carolina this fall in singles victories with an impressive 10-2 slate. She is second on the squad in doubles wins with an individual record of 11-3. Most of her wins have come with Folland, as the duo has combined for a team-leading 10-2 mark.
Dailey is second on the squad in singles wins at 7-5, followed by Cochran at 6-2 and Folland at 6-6. Folland has the most individual doubles triumphs at 12-2. Dailey’s record stands at an impressive 9-3, while Cochran is 8-1 and Berg is 7-3.
South Carolina has not played a tournament since the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships hosted by UNC over Oct. 16-20. The Gamecocks advanced four doubles teams to the quarterfinals and two to the semis. Berg and Elixane Lechemia lost a three-set match in the finals to a Tar Heel duo and Lechemia advanced to the quarters in singles as well.
