The No. 24/23 South Carolina Gamecocks (1-1, 0-1 SEC) host the No. 6/6 Georgia Bulldogs (1-0, 0-0 SEC) in an SEC Eastern Division showdown on Saturday, September 13 at Williams-Brice Stadium. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. and the contest will be televised nationally on CBS, with Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson in the booth and Allie LaForce working the sidelines.
Saturday’s game is sold out, the 10th-consecutive sellout at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Following Tuesday’s two-hour workout at the Bluff Road “Proving Grounds,” defensive line coach Deke Adams knows his unit will be facing another strong offensive line. “They’ve got a good offensive line,” said Adams of Georgia’s front five. “Every offensive line we face in this conference is going to be a good offensive line. We’ve got to continue to get better week-to-week and line up and be ready to play.
“I think we all got better (against East Carolina),” noted Adams. “We’ve still got a long way to go. We’ve still got a lot of work to get done. We’ve got to take it game-by-game and try to work on different things as we go and get better as we go.”
The Gamecock front will be tested to slow down Todd Gurley and the Bulldog rushing game. “We’re going to do our best,” said Adams. “We’re going against four really great running backs that could probably start for any team in this conference. It’s going to be a challenge for us to contain them but we’re going to do our best. Our guys are going to be in position to make plays. We’ve just got to make them when we’re there. (Gurley) is an aggressive runner,” noted Adams. “He runs very hard and he runs very physical. We’ve got to get him on the ground. We’ve got to tackle him and get him on the ground.”
The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Wednesday afternoon.
