MILWAUKEE — For the second day in a row, the South Carolina women’s tennis team won eight matches at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic hosted by Marquette at The Town Club.
The Gamecocks started the day with a 2-1 showing in doubles against Wisconsin. Megen Cochran and Caroline Dailey teamed up for an 8-4 win against Laurne Chypa and Maria Avgerines, while Hadley Berg and Brigit Folland defeated the duo of Ekaterina Stepanova and Sydney Rider 8-6. The Badgers picked up a win courtesy of Lauren Burich and Delsey Grambeau’s 8-6 triumph over Meghan Blevins and Natalie Looney.
In singles play, South Carolina snagged six wins over Marquette. Dailey beat Ana Pimienta 6-3, 6-1, Blevins defeated Erin Gebes 6-3, 7-6 and No. 114 Folland ousted Diana Tokar 6-4, 6-0. The other winning trio included Cochran’s 6-1, 6-4 win over Paula Tormos, Berg defeating Aleeza Kanner 6-0, 6-3 and Looney recording a straight set victory against Vanessa Foltinger 6-4, 6-4.
Gamecock newcomer Alison Mills played her first career match and suffered a 6-3, 6-2 setback to Barbare Eristavi from Western Michigan.
Through two days, Cochran, Berg, Folland and Dailey have all posted 4-0 records between singles and doubles play.
The Gamecocks conclude play at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic with doubles action Sunday versus Marquette and singles matches with Western Michigan.
