COLUMBIA, S.C. — Incoming South Carolina women’s tennis freshman Hadley Berg won the singles and doubles titles at an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Summer Circuit event hosted by University of the Pacific over July 19-21 in Stockton, Calif., at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts.

Seeded third for the 32-person singles draw, Berg defeated Paulina Bajet 6-0, 6-1 in her first match and then downed Francis Dean 6-1, 6-2 in the second. Berg faced off with Kennedy Davis, her doubles partner who plays for San Diego State, in the quarterfinals and scored a 6-2, 7-5 triumph. She made short work of Anne Susdorf from Fresno State in the semis 6-2, 6-1 and did the same to Iveta Masarova from the host school in the championship match 6-0, 6-3.

Berg and Davis had the No. 2 seed for the 16-team draw in doubles. A bye in the first round landed them a match-up with Jessica Josiah and Andie Mouzes in the quarterfinals that they won 8-3. They scored another victory in the semifinals by the same score over Lily Ana Kreutzer and Katsiaryna Semashka. In the finals, they won by an even more decisive score against top-seeded Masarova and Daria Labintseva with an 8-2 triumph.

The Gamecocks have seen a great deal of success thus far with the ITA Summer Circuit. Prior to winning the titles in Stockton, Berg reached the singles final at another event in California a week ago. Sophomore Caroline Dailey won the doubles title at a tournament in Tallahassee, Fla., on July 9 as well.

Earlier this year, Berg won her first International Tennis Federation title in Tinajo, Spain, when she teamed with Madison Westby for the doubles crown at the $10,000 F.T.A. International. Berg and Westby posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the championship match against Yoshimi Kawasaki and Yumi Nakano, both experienced professionals from Japan.

Berg was ranked as high as the No. 52 recruit in the nation in 2013 by TennisRecruiting.net and was as high as No. 66 in 2014. The recruiting service considers her a five-star prospect as well.
