Ellington Selected in 4th Round of NFL Draft

May 10, 2014

University of South Carolina junior wide receiver Bruce Ellington was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He was the 106th player taken overall.

Ellington, a 5-9, 197-pound wide receiver from Moncks Corner, S.C., was the Gamecocks’ top receiver in 2013 with 49 catches for 75 yards and eight touchdowns. During his career, he logged 106 receptions for 1,586 yards and 16 touchdown catches. A two-sport standout, Ellington was a three-year starter on the hardwood, averaging over 11 points per game for the Carolina men’s basketball team. He earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman team in both football and basketball.

Ellington is the second Gamecock taken in the 2014 NFL Draft, joining defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who was selected by the Houston Texans with the first pick in the draft.

Ellington’s cousin, Andre Ellington, is a running back for the Arizona Cardinals.
