MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — South Carolina senior Amanda Rutqvist concluded her career today at the 2014 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, just missing All-America honors as she placed 17th in the 200 breaststroke preliminary at the Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Rutqvist posted a time of 2:09.64, missing out on the top 16 by 0.21 seconds. It took a time of 2:09.43 to make the consolation final and a time of 2:08.12 to advance to the championship final.
A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, Rutqvist had another solid year for the Gamecocks. Her appearance at this year’s NCAA Championships was her fourth straight. She swam in the 100 breaststroke at the championships on Friday, finishing 48th in the event. After finishing the regular season with six individual wins, all coming in the 200 breaststroke, she scored points for South Carolina in the event at the SEC Championships, finishing 10th. Rutqvist finished her career as a three-time All-American.
The focus now shifts to South Carolina’s men’s team as the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships begins next Thursday through Saturday in Austin, Texas. The Gamecocks will be represented by sophomore Marwan El Kamash in the 100, 200 and 500 fre
