Spurrier's Donations to the University Reach $1 Million
March 21, 2014
Head coach Steve Spurrier’s annual donations back to the University of South Carolina have accrued to the $1 million mark as he approaches his 10th year directing the Gamecocks’ football program, according to Jeff Crane, Associate Athletics Director for Development.
“I am very blessed and fortunate to be the head coach here at South Carolina and to be able to give back to our school,” said Coach Spurrier. “Working under the direction of President Harris Pastides and Athletics Director Ray Tanner is simply the best. We have achieved a lot in the past nine years including three consecutive 11-win seasons and Top-10 finishes, along with numerous State Championships, but we still have not won an SEC title. Hopefully, we will accomplish this goal within the next few years.”
“Steve and Jerri Spurrier have demonstrated their commitment to Carolina in many ways over the years,” said Pastides. “They are an integral part of why we are a successful university. The Board of Trustees and I thank them for their generosity.”
“Coach Spurrier and Jerri are proud Gamecocks and an important part of our team,” said Tanner. “Their passion for this University is evident and an example for us all. We appreciate the Spurriers’ generosity to our program.”
The Athletics Department has raised over $192 million through the Garnet Way Campaign to support student-athletes, provide scholarships and academic support and construct world-class facilities. This effort is part of the university’s Carolina’s Promise Campaign to raise $1 billion.
