ATHENS, Ga. – Night three of the SEC Championships at Gabrielsen Natatorium saw seven South Carolina swimmers competing in event finals. On the men’s side Gerard Rodriguez nabbed a second place result in the 200 freestyle B Final, while Michael Flach and Victoria Mitchell also took second in their event C Finals.

In the women’s 400 IM, Mitchell lowered her prelim time down to 4:15.33 to move into third all-time at South Carolina. After finishing the butterfly portion in seventh to start the race, the junior quickly climbed to third through the backstroke and ultimately finished second. Sophomore Elisabeth Worrell would finish in eighth place in the final at 4:20.34.

In the B Final, Abby Galbreath was a half a second off of the time Mitchell posted in the previous final, coming in at 4:15.83. The senior finished in sixth place.

After posting a near 13-second personal record to qualify for the C Final in the men’s 400 IM, Alex Vance was third with just the freestyle to go, but slipped back to seventh. The junior finished just back of his pace from earlier today with a time of 3:56.13.

The night closed for Carolina just as it started, with three Gamecocks competing in the finals, this time though, it was on the men’s side as last night’s group of Marwan El Kamash, Rodriguez and Flach were back in the pool in the 200 freestyle.

Rodriguez and El Kamash each posted new personal records in the B Final as they finished 2-3. Rodriguez got the better of his teammate by clocking in with time of 1:35.63. The senior remains in third all-time at South Carolina in the event. El Kamash was 0.08 seconds back at 1:35.71. The sophomore shaved just under two seconds off his previous best to jump to fourth all-time in program history.

In the event’s C Final, Flach grabbed a second place result by posting a mark of 1:35.96.

Through 22 events, the Gamecock men sit in eighth place with 293 points, while the women are 11th with 150 points.

Tomorrow’s prelims will begin at 10 a.m. ET with the 200 butterfly.
