CHAPEL HILL, N.C.Natalie Looney and Katie Fosnacht from the South Carolina women’s tennis team competed in the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships on Thursday in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Both players lost in the opening round of the qualifying singles draw. Looney took a 6-1, 6-2 defeat from Emily Groeneveld of East Carolina, and Fosnacht suffered a 6-1, 6-1 setback to Taylor Cohen of USC Upstate.

The main draws for singles and doubles begin Friday. Elixane Lechemia, Dominika Kanakova, Caroline Dailey, Brigit Folland, Ximena Siles Luna and Meghan Blevins are all set to participate in the singles main draw, while those six plus Looney and Fosnacht will play doubles. The day begins with one round of doubles matches at 8:30 a.m. followed by one round of singles play.
