GREENVILLE, S.C. — Ximena Siles Luna and Caroline Dailey from the South Carolina women’s tennis team both reached the finals of their respective singles flights Saturday at the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C.
Siles Luna defeated Carmen Blanco of Alabama in straight sets 7-6, 6-4 in flight five, while Dailey picked up a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Margaret Boyette of Furman in the semifinals of flight six. Both Gamecocks are looking to win their second tournament titles in consecutive weeks. Siles Luna holds a 5-0 record this fall, while Dailey has suffered just one loss at 5-1. She subbed in for Elixane Lechemia today in flight four and fell in three sets to Danielle Spielmann of Alabama.
Katerina Popova snagged a victory for South Carolina in the consolation semifinals of flight two with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Caitlin Hindmarsh of Iowa. Natalie Looney won for the second time in as many days also, recording a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 victory against Amanda Murray of Furman.
In doubles, South Carolina picked up a couple of wins in consolation play with Lechemia and Meghan Blevins defeating Pande and Olivarez of Tennessee 8-3 in flight two, while Brigit Folland and Siles Luna dropped Vriens and Schleich from Florida State 9-7. Folland and Siles Luna also competed in flight two.
Play in the Furman Fall Classic concludes Sunday with one round of singles matches.
