COLUMBIA, S.C. – The men’s and women’s track and field programs were named 2013 Division I All-Academic Track and Field teams, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced. In addition, 10 individuals were recognized for their results in the classroom.
To be earn the team distinction, a program must record a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher. The South Carolina women posted a 3.48 with the men registering a 3.17.
In Division I, 187 women’s programs and 111 men’s teams earned team recognition. The Gamecock women were one of 10 SEC teams to earn All-Academic distinction and the men were one of five. In addition to South Carolina, Auburn, Alabama, Florida and Missouri were the only SEC institutions to receive All-Academic nods for both the men’s and women’s programs.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
