The University of South Carolina football team rose five spots to Number 8 in the BCS Standings released Sunday night.

Alabama continues to hold the top spot, followed by Kansas State, Notre Dame and Oregon. SEC schools hold down the next four spots with LSU, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina ranking from 5-8. Florida State and Louisville round out the top 10.

The squad moved up several notches in both major polls, climbing to 11th in both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ polls released today. The move represented a rise of six spots in the AP and five spots in the Coaches’ poll. The Gamecocks are also 11th in the Harris Interactive poll.

The Gamecocks (7-2, 5-2 SEC) posted a hard-fought 38-35 win over Tennessee on Saturday. The Gamecocks rolled up 510 yards of offense, but had to hold off a late Volunteer rally to secure the win. The Gamecocks also played the second half without the services of team captain, Marcus Lattimore, who left the game in the second quarter with a severe right knee injury.

The Gamecocks will enjoy a bye week this week before hosting the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, November 10.
