The University of South Carolina football team climbed one spot in the Associated Press poll while remaining steady in the USA TODAY/Coaches poll, it was announced today.

The Gamecocks (2-0) moved up one spot to No. 8 in the Associated Press poll following a convincing 48-10 win over East Carolina (1-1) on Saturday afternoon. It’s Carolina’s highest A.P. ranking since they checked in at No. 6 after defeating North Carolina in 2007 to improve to 6-1. The Gamecocks remained No. 9 in this week’s USA TODAY/Coaches poll.

Alabama sits atop both polls, with LSU and Southern California trading off the No. 2 and 3 spots. Oregon, Oklahoma, Florida State and Georgia are ranked 4-7 in order in both polls, with South Carolina and West Virginia checking in at the 8 and 9 spots. Michigan State rounds out the Top-10. Every team in the Top-10 is 2-0, with the exception of West Virginia at 1-0.

South Carolina will host UAB (0-1) on Saturday, Sept. 15, at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. That contest will be televised by FSN, with Bob Rathbun and Tim Couch in the booth and Elizabeth Moreau working the sidelines.
