The University of South Carolina football team worked out twice on Tuesday, spending the morning on the Williams-Brice Stadium surface before returning to the Bluff Road practice fields for the afternoon workout. The Gamecocks (10-2) are preparing for the January 1 Outback Bowl against the Michigan Wolverines (8-4).

Between practices, the Gamecocks posed for their annual team photo. The squad wore their Garnet jerseys with the Outback Bowl patch stitched on. The Gamecocks will be the “visiting” team at the 2013 Outback Bowl, but will wear garnet jerseys and garnet pants. Michigan will be the “home” team and recently unveiled new white uniforms for the contest.

“Our guys are pretty focused,” said running backs coach Everette Sands following the late workout. “Michigan’s a good team. We’re working to get better.”

Since the season-ending injury to Marcus Lattimore, Kenny Miles and Mike Davis have done the bulk of the work at running back, but Sands said there could be another back who sees playing time in the bowl game. “Shon Carson is back. He’s doing some good things, so I expect Shon to be in the mix as well.” Carson, a redshirt freshman, has not played all season due to a wrist injury. Carson is also planning on trying out for the Gamecock baseball team in the spring.

The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Wednesday morning.
