DES MOINES, Iowa – South Carolina wrapped up its run at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships Friday afternoon with Marvin Reitze and Jeannelle Scheper locking up second team All-America honors with top 16 finishes in their respective events.
Reitze cleared 17’4 ½ (5.30m) on his second attempt to place 14th overall in the men’s pole vault competition. The silver medalist at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Reitze then passed at 17’8 ½ (5.40m) but missed on three attempts at 18’0 (5.50m) to miss out on a chance at gold.
Scheper placed 16th at 5’10 ½ (1.79m) in her first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. A first team All-American during the indoor season, Scheper – who did not get a chance to practice this week prior to her competition due to illness – missed out on scoring by one bar.
