HAMILTON, Bermuda – South Carolina sophomore high jumper Jeannelle Scheper earned bronze medal honors for the third consecutive year after her performance at the 41st edition of the Caribbean Junior Championships, known as the CARIFTA Games, that were held at the Bermuda National Stadium in Hamilton, Bermuda.

Scheper placed third overall in the under-20 high jump with a mark of 5’10 ¾ (1.80m), making her one of two female athletes to medal for St. Lucia at the 2012 CARIFTA Games in any event. She also earned bronze at the 2011 CARIFTA Games in Montego Bay, Jamaica, in addition to earning bronze at the 2010 CARIFTA Games in George Town, Cayman Islands. Scheper has already qualified for the IAAF World Junior Championships that will be held July 10-15 in Barcelona.

Twenty-five Caribbean Island countries took part in the 2012 CARIFTA Games that spread over three days of the Easter weekend. St. Lucia ended the competition with four medals – a silver and bronze on the men’s team in addition to a silver and bronze on the women’s team.

Scheper will rejoin the Gamecocks when they travel to the Spec Towns Invitational this weekend held on the campus of the University of Georgia.
