COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina swimming and diving coach McGee Moody has been named an American Swimming Coaches Association Coach of Excellence for 2011, the ASCA announced recently.

“I am extremely honored to receive this award,” said Moody, who is in his fifth season at South Carolina. “It is an award that I believe represents our entire coaching staff at South Carolina.”

Each year the ASCA honors coaches who lead individuals to a top-eight finish at a USA Swimming national-level meet or a USA Collegiate championship, including the NCAA Championships, the USA Swimming National Championships and the USA Swimming Winter National Championships.

Moody guided one swimmer to a top-eight finish last year. Then-freshman Amanda Rutqvist placed fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke final at the 2011 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, swimming a school-record 2:07.86.
