The University of South Carolina football squad practiced for the fifth time this spring at the Bluff Road “Proving Grounds” on Friday afternoon. The squad was greeted with another warm day with temperatures in the low 80s when practice began.
Offensive line coach Shawn Elliott expressed high praise for redshirt freshman offensive tackle Brandon Shell. “We know he’s a heck of an athlete,” said Elliott. “He’s big and has a huge upside. Now he’s just got to develop into what we think he’s going to be. Right now, four or five days into it, he’s doing pretty good. I have no idea as to how good he can be at this point. A lot is going to be determined on him. It’s like that with any player out here. If you want to be good, you can be good. He can really blossom into something special I think. I’m excited about him.”
The Gamecocks will hold their first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday morning at Williams-Brice Stadium. The practice is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Fans are invited to attend the practice and are requested to enter the stadium and sit on the west (Bluff Road) side.
