Sept. 11, 2011

The University of South Carolina football squad moved up one notch in both national polls, it was announced today. The Gamecocks are the 11th-ranked team in the country according to both the Associated Press and the USA Today/Coaches poll.

The No. 11 ranking is the highest for a South Carolina football team since the team was ranked sixth in the country after defeating North Carolina on Oct. 13, 2007, which improved its record to 6-1.

The Gamecocks (2-0, 1-0 SEC) are coming off a wild 45-42 win at Georgia on Saturday. South Carolina defeated the Bulldogs in back-to-back meetings for the first time since 2000-01 seasons and for just the sixth time in the history of the series, which dates back to 1894.

After enjoying an off day today, the Gamecocks will return to the Bluff Road practice fields at 7 p.m. on Monday night.

The Gamecocks will begin preparations for their home opener, which is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17 against Navy (2-0). Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. The contest will be televised nationally by ESPN2 with Mike Patrick handling the play-by-play, Craig James providing the color analysis and Jeannine Edwards on the sidelines.
