University of South Carolina senior defensive end Melvin Ingram has been named to the 2011 Associated Press first-team All-America squad, while senior safety Antonio Allen was named to the second team, it was announced today.

Ingram, a 6-2, 276-pounder from Hamlet, N.C., led the Gamecocks with 13.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. He also intercepted two passes, was credited with six quarterback hurries and scored three touchdowns, including a 68-yard scamper on a fake punt in the Gamecocks’ win at Georgia. He was previously named first-team All-America by AFCA, the Walter Camp Football Foundation and SI.com.

Allen, a 6-2, 202-pounder from Ocala, Fla., led the Gamecocks with 81 tackles. He was the only player in the SEC to rank among the league’s top-10 in tackles, interceptions, fumbles forced and fumbles recovered.
