The University of South Carolina football squad worked out again Tuesday morning at the Bluff Road practices fields. The squad was dressed in full gear for the morning session.

“We had a decent little practice today,” said head coach Steve Spurrier following the workout. “We let the young guys sort of halfway scrimmage there at the end. Some of the guys did well.”

Quarterback play continues to be a hot topic around the team this fall. “Stephen (Garcia) looks like he’s doing well. He has thrown it well in the pass skel. He is much improved in the decision-making than he has been. Connor (Shaw) is doing ok in there. Dylan (Thompson) and (Andrew) Clifford do some good things. They’re coming around.”

Senior kicker Jay Wooten has been placed on scholarship, according to Coach Spurrier. “We put Jay on (scholarship). He’s going to be our kicker this year – definitely field goal and extra point and possibly kickoff. The punting job is still up in the air. If a walk-on player goes on scholarship, he definitely knows it’s a one-year deal. When people say they can’t play and we’re getting rid of them, they’re telling a fabricated story. The walk-on kids that get scholarships know they’re one year and if they’re not renewed, they’re supposed to know that.”

The Gamecocks will return to the practice field on Wednesday morning at 8:30. That practice is open to the public.
