PALO ALTO, Calif. – South Carolina junior swimmer Michael Flach finished ninth overall in the men’s 200-meter butterfly at day two of the 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships at Stanford University’s Avery Aquatic Center in Palo Alto, Calif., on Wednesday night.
Earlier in the day, Flach qualified for the national championship race after an Olympic Trial qualifying cut of 1:59.20 in the preliminary round. He posted a time of 2:00.05 in the national championship race.
Flach also qualified for the consolation round of the 200-meter freestyle, with another Olympic Trial cut of 1:51.16 in prelims. He swam an outstanding race in the “C” final of the men’s 200 free, winning the race with a time of 1:50.66 to finish 21st overall in the event.
