University of South Carolina sophomore wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and freshman running back Marcus Lattimore were both named 2010 second team All-Americans by the Walter Camp Football Foundation (WCFF) it was announced tonight. The Walter Camp All-America team is voted on by the Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors.

Jeffery, a 6-4, 233-pounder from St. Matthews, S.C., set South Carolina school records in both receptions (79) and receiving yards in a season (1,387). He was one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, which goes to the nation’s top receiver and has been a unanimous first-team All-SEC selection. He was a first-team All-American according to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

Lattimore, a six-foot, 218-pounder from Duncan, S.C., was the only freshman named to either the first or second team unit. He is the consensus National Freshman of the Year and was a unanimous first-team All-SEC first-team selection. Lattimore has carried the ball 248 times for 1,198 yards, the third-highest single-season rushing total in school history. He also scored 19 touchdowns, one shy of the SEC single season record.

Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven-based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and continue the tradition of selecting an annual All-America team.
